We chatted with Johanna Bialkin, founder of Aldea Home, on the vision for her business and how she’s out to do good in all things. From supporting local shops in your neighborhood, to buying quality products made from clean materials and giving back to your community.
Aldea means “small village” and it was owner Johanna Bialkin’s background in the non-profit sector paired with strong personal values that gave her the desire to create a space which not only offers sustainable goods but also encourages community engagement. From Johanna: “We care about our impact on the world, how our products are made and simply “doing good” overall so we make sure we partner exclusively with artisans who share the same vision.”
Jill from Bumbleride:
You wholeheartedly believe the Community and Connection are two of the most important things of our lives. How do you bring these attributes into your stores?
Johanna Bialkin:
Aldea is a community focused, woman owned business. It’s important for us to support all aspects of building alliances and champion for other small businesses and our customer base, along with local schools and charities that give back. We also love to have a good time! From art and cocktail events to mommy-and-me classes, we cater to all.
Jill from Bumbleride:
You have hand-picked and highly curated product selection of items that are both good for the environment and non-toxic for babies. With all the baby products out there, how do you narrow it down and choose the right products for your stores?
Johanna Bialkin:
While we are known for our fun and revolving merchandise, we ensure to prioritize vendors that also give back to their communities, source locally and are cruelty free in their manufacturing. This has helped us maintain relationships throughout with many vendors in many categories and work exclusively to bring special releases and Aldea exclusives you can only find with us throughout the years.
We have been working with Bumbleride for several years and love their company ethos and commitment to doing good; through encouraging beach clean ups in their community, remarkable customer care and continued use of sustainable materials such as GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, 100% recycled PET fabrics, recycled sea nets, PFC-free durable water repellent and more.
Jill from Bumbleride:
It’s a really crucial time to make a choice about where you are purchasing your baby products. For families without access to a local store such as yours, tell us about the gear consultation services you are offering online.
Johanna Bialkin:
We believe that small business is crucial to the world we live in and want to make sure to help support. Products can be unmeaning, we care about what we sell, how we sell and who we sell it to. Once the product has been delivered, we want to be involved with our customers and have them join our Aldea communities in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other locations to come in the near future.
For those without access to one of our stores, we have over 13 years of experience selecting and curating the finest items available, we are here to help you build the perfect nursery. Offering organic, eco-friendly, and local products, we are dedicated to bringing you a warm and memorable experience. Service is our number one priority! Our very well-trained team is here to walk you through the registry process, assist with product demos and make sure you choose the products that best suit your lifestyle.
